The Commander series is a line of products conceived for the Commander format. From 2013 on, a Commander product was released every year, each containing five 100-card decks. This product is generally targeted at non-tournament play. While the audience is obviously Commander players, they are also interesting for other formats like free-for-all multiplayer or Cube Draft.

Commander
Commander is a set of 5 preconstructed theme decks based on the casual fan-made and maintained format of the same name (previously known as Elder Dragon Highlander) that had been around for many years. While the format was still maintained and controlled by the players, Wizards now for the first time provided a special product for it.

Commander 2013
The Commander 2013 product consists of five tri-color 'shard' decks, each 100 cards strong, that are ready-to-play commander decks right out of the box, with the option of choosing one of the three legendary tri-colored creatures each deck includes as the commander.
There are 15 new cards in each deck; 51 new cards in total. These are legal in Eternal formats (Vintage and Legacy) but they are not legal in Standard, Block Constructed, or Modern.

Like its predecessor, Commander 2018 consists of four preconstructed theme decks, and features twelve premium foil Planeswalker commanders. The four 100-card decks contain 307 different cards in total. There are 59 new cards legal in Vintage and Legacy. Each deck comes with a deck box, 10 double-faced token cards, a strategy insert and a rules reference guide.
